17th Annual Wood Week: "Sustainable Living"

After two years in an online format, Wood Week returns in person for its seventeenth edition this October at Parque Bicentenario in Vitacura.

After two years in an online format, Wood Week returns in person for its seventeenth edition this October at Parque Bicentenario in Vitacura.

Wood Week returns in 2022 and it’s packed with innovative wooden architecture, design, engineering, construction and entrepreneurship. Organized by Madera21, the event seeks to strengthen the identity and culture of wood in Chile, from a sustainable perspective.

The event will take place from Wednesday, October 19th to Sunday, October 23rd at Parque Bicentenario in Vitacura. It will be open to the public with activities for the community along with wood experts.

With the theme of "sustainable living", the event will focus on the environmental benefits of wood in the face of the challenges posed by climate change. In the words of Francisco Lozano, President of Corma's Madera21: "This year’s edition of Wood Week is a turning point for us, after two years in an online format. This event has a long tradition and this 17th edition will focus on showing all the advances in timber construction in Chile and how wood has positioned itself as a sustainable material, improving the standard of living for people while generating development and innovation in the country."

Wood is the only raw material for construction that has the ability to reduce CO2 in the environment. Among other advantages you might have read about in this blog, it’s a natural element, so it’s renewable and its production is cleaner compared to other materials. However - another reason events like Wood Week are so important - in Chile, less than 15% of construction projects are made of wood. Promoting innovation and technological development in the country is a challenge that we will have the opportunity to address in this instance.

CMPC at Wood Week

As the main sponsor, CMPC will have a leading role at the event, along with Niuform. CMPC will focus on solid wood construction, such as CLT and Mass Timber, explaining the benefits and how sustainability can be achieved by replacing other construction materials with wood.

Each firm’s stands will be open to the public and provide technical information. There will also be activities and project presentations with business partners also present at Wood Week, allowing attendees to get a closer look at this type of construction.

During the 5 days dedicated to Chile’s timber industry, there will be activities for the general public, children and experts, as well as seminars, competitions and exhibitions, and much more. Keep up to date with the latest news about the event at www.semanadelamadera.cl.
