More Than a Virtual Reality Game
Since its early days, Minecraft has been known for its playability (both for young digital natives and older generations) as well as its educational, professional, and creative potential. This world of cubes is frequently updated as more and more elements are added to the game, helping players to create worlds that are closer to reality.
Minecraft is a world where you can dream and have almost anything you’d like to materialize in the game, encouraging the creativity and even the artistic expression of the players. Depending on the time and dedication that players give to the game, they can build anything from simple cabins to large mansions and even entire cities.
Two of the most common things players do are recreating their own house or building their dream home. Other players, who are architecture enthusiasts, dream of traveling the world, or have a fascination with a particular city, and they, taking this challenge very seriously, build exact replicas of large cities around the world.
On Vacation in Minecraft
Just as if you were visiting Paris or London, you can come across Minecraft universes that have exact replicas of these cities and many others. Impressive recreations for the level of detail and realism they reach, these can be visited by cyber tourists, fans of the game or as a learning and exploration tool.
It’s worth mentioning that in 2020 and 2021, great advances were made in the recreation of cities, due to the confinement by COVID-19 which bore fruit in the digital universes. This was the beginning of the biggest projects to date in Minecraft. Thanks to technology, teams of thousands of users gather to build together replicas of cities at 1:1 scale, a challenge that requires great effort and dedication.
So today we want to present some of the best replicas of real cities in Minecraft; further proof that there are no limitations in this game and that anyone can try their hand at being an architect here.
1. New York City
It’s no joke – more than 2,500 users are working on a full-scale construction of New York City in Minecraft. The project was proposed by the user Minefact, who decided to start with the Big Apple, considering public data on its buildings and infrastructure is easily accessible. Google Maps was used as a reference as well.
As the largest known team in the process of recreating cities, in three years they’ve managed to join forces to grow the city. While the initial idea was to replicate only the facade of the Big Apple, they have also taken into consideration the interior of iconic buildings in detail.
2. Monuments of Spain
Another recreation enthusiast is Minecafteate. On his YouTube channel, you can find several real-life Spanish buildings and monuments brought to this cube world, promoting the conservation of these historical places in the country.
3. Russia
Another of the mega-projects on the platform is the recreation of Russia on a 1:1 scale. With thousands of participants, the task has been tackled starting from the main cities of the country.
The project is led by Team CIS, the team in charge of leading the digital construction of at least 50 Russian cities in 2021, among which are: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kudrovo, Vyborg, and dozens of other virtual cities.
To leave you even more amazed, the replicas of these cities are gradually being added to a recreation of the Earth’s surface in the game with the scale of 1:1, considering each block as 1 cubic meter of the real world, thanks to the user PippenFTS, who started the project known as Build the Earth.
