The 5-star hotel, designed by Roth-Architecture, presents open spaces with forms that converse with nature, using local materials with no associated carbon footprint. Polished cement was assembled with construction techniques and finished by hand to be used as walls and pillars, similar to polished stone.
Tropical wood features as one of the resort’s main materials, with raw timber floors made with tzalam, cedar and zapote, which also covers many of the rooms, ceilings, pathways, walkways and the resort’s terraces.
The ceilings are naturally reinforced with palm leaves, used in rooms and resort common areas as a renewable and climate-resistant material. They are typical of the area and perfectly blend the hotel in with its surroundings.
This quiet and serene environment provides guests with a place to rest and disconnect from their routines. With a total of 48 spacious, exclusive rooms, built on stilts and overlooking the sea and nature, Azulik provides all the privacy that visitors are looking for.
Among the services and activities offered by the resort are transportation, cooking classes, yoga and meditation, spa treatments and massages, a swimming pool and private beach, excursions in the surrounding area and the Mayan ruins as well as other tourist attractions in the area.
The design of Azulik’s restaurants is noteworthy. First, you have Kin Toh, which is perched on top of large trees, supported by long stilts, and reached through a walkway leading to the top. It’s circular in shape and covered with glass panels that give a view of the surrounding nature.
Then there’s Ja, located on the adjacent beach. This Japanese-style restaurant, also featuring a terrace overlooking the sea, was built with palm and timber.
