Claro Arena receives international recognition for sustainability leadership

Claro Arena, the new stadium of Club Deportivo Universidad Católica, has been awarded the Sustainability Delivered Award at the 2025 Stadium Business Design & Development Awards, one of the most prestigious global recognitions in the sports infrastructure industry. The award positions the venue as a regional benchmark in sustainable design, innovation, and construction.

The distinction was presented in England and recognizes projects that successfully integrate sustainability from design through to operation, highlighting positive environmental impact, construction efficiency, and innovative large-scale solutions.

A stadium setting a new standard for sustainable construction

The international jury particularly valued Claro Arena’s comprehensive approach, which combines contemporary architecture, respect for its urban surroundings, and a robust environmental strategy. Key attributes include optimized resource use, a reduced carbon footprint, and the incorporation of materials with strong environmental performance.

Within this framework, mass timber plays a central role, contributing not only to structural efficiency but also to sustainability and carbon storage benefits.

CMPC Maderas and Niuform’s contribution to the project

Through Niuform, CMPC Maderas actively contributed to the development of the stadium by supplying more than 1,500 cubic meters of mass timber, showcasing the potential of this renewable material in large-scale, high-performance buildings.

This collaboration illustrates how modern engineering and renewable-based products can be efficiently integrated into iconic projects, delivering construction solutions aligned with today’s challenges in the built environment.

Juan Pablo Pereira, CMPC’s Maderas Business Manager, stated:

Claro Arena is an iconic project in the use of mass timber, not only in Chile but across the entire region. Niuform’s products define the stadium’s character, play a structural performance role, and above all, demonstrate the potential of wood in large-scale developments.

A recognition that goes beyond borders

In addition to receiving the Sustainability Delivered Award, Claro Arena was also shortlisted in other relevant categories at the awards, reinforcing its innovative character and its impact on the global sports infrastructure landscape.

This recognition reaffirms CMPC and Niuform’s commitment to sustainable construction, wood innovation, and the development of solutions that contribute to a more responsible future, consolidating wood as a key material for the architecture of tomorrow.
