From a Patio to an Incredible Terrace: Meet the Deck!
A way to give a personal and comfortable touch to your space, the deck is a great option for exteriors. Read on to learn about its features and uses.
You’ve probably thought about how to decorate your outside space so that you can enjoy it to the fullest. Well, maybe this article can kickstart the process of making your yard the space you want it to be. The deck can add to a space, giving it a feeling of warmth and comfort, and creating a fun gathering point for any occasion.
The deck is a hardwood floor covering, usually made of pine, eucalyptus, lapacho, quebracho or timbo; all of which are very resistant and well suited for the outdoors. One of its great advantages is the possibility of installing it on any type of ground. It’s also easy to maintain and durable.
How to install the deck?
Once you determine how and where you’re going to place the deck, prepare the area to begin the assembly. Take into consideration:
-
A height of at least 15 cm from the ground.
-
Separation between boards of at least 0.5 cm, in case the wood widens. It is also recommended to leave the deck boards outdoors about 24 hours beforehand so that the wood can better adapt to the temperature and humidity of the site.
-
Plan a partial assembly. The idea is to be able to assemble and disassemble in parts to facilitate later maintenance.
-
Use stainless steel or galvanized screws.
-
Apply at least two coats of wax or anti-moisture varnish to the boards. This way, the boards will be protected on all sides before assembly.
One advantage of the deck is that you can easily assemble it yourself. The method you chose is up to you; you can start assembling it and be guided by tutorials to make sure you do it correctly or you can get a professional to help.
Deck Uses
-
Exteriorization
Without a doubt, this ground covering is ideal for patios, where you can exteriorize indoor spaces such as a living room or dining room in warmer seasons. -
Relaxation
An ideal choice for creating that relaxing and restful atmosphere, you could create a comforting garden filled with your favorite plants or a space to do yoga and exercise outdoors in your own home. -
Pool Days
An incredible solution for the pool side, the deck works as a non-slip floor. It doesn’t absorb heat so it’s comfortable to step on barefoot and very clean, helping to keep the pool clean when entering the water. -
Decoration
It brings warmth and comfort to spaces such as barbecues and pergolas, a special touch in gathering spaces.
Although there are many options when it comes to deck flooring, we like to highlight the advantages of wood over other materials: it comes from renewable sources, is easy to maintain, continues the process of absorption of CO2 from trees, and produces a comforting effect on people, making everyone feel closer to nature in your space.
