CMPC Ventures, the investment division of the forestry holding company CMPC, has made a 2 million euro investment in the innovative Swedish startup Modvion. This investment supports Modvion’s technological proposal, which promotes the use of wood in renewable solutions through wind towers made from laminated veneer lumber.
Modvion stands out as a leading company in engineering and industrial design, committed to sustainability. They use wood to build wind turbine towers, offering significant benefits, such as a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions. Each 150-meter tower contributes to a saving of 2,000 tons of CO2, helping to mitigate climate change. In addition, these towers allow for greater heights and harnessing stronger winds, increasing efficiency in power generation. By capturing CO2 in their fibers, Modvion structures make wind farms carbon neutral.
This investment in Modvion joins other initiatives in Northern Europe, such as Boreal Bioproducts and Woamy, which are gaining recognition in the clean technology sector. These startups are driving the production of innovative solutions and expanding Modvion’s marketing and sales capabilities, as well as fostering collaboration and the exchange of human capital.
Bernardita Araya, manager of CMPC Ventures, says: We are very excited about this investment in Modvion, as it aligns perfectly with our sustainability and innovation commitments. This project represents a major advance in wood construction and offers disruptive developments that highlight the versatility of wood in high-tech applications
This operation is part of the portfolio of the 100 million dollar innovation fund launched by CMPC in 2023, of which more than 20 million dollars have already been invested in clean and sustainable technologies.
